Kohlfurth è un quartiere residenziale nel distretto di Cronenberg a Wuppertal, al confine con Solingen formato dal fiume Wupper. Sull'altro lato del Wupper si trova un'area omonima nel distretto di Solingen-Mitte.
Ci sono due interpretazioni riguardo l'origine etimologica del nome. La prima suggerisce che il nome derivi da una Kohlenfurth, quindi da un guado sul Wupper, attraverso il quale venivano effettuati trasporti di carbone dalla Ruhr a Solingen. La spiegazione più probabile è l'origine di una denominazione di un podere dal Külfbach, che si immette nel Wupper presso Kohlfurth. Nel 1471 è registrato il podere "in der Kolve"; nel 1598 Kulfert; nel 1656 Kullff; nel 1659 Kolfert; nel 1690 Kolffurt. Kolf, Kolve o Külf significa pozza d'acqua.
