El Arnold-Janssen-Gymnasium es una escuela privada católica fundada en 1928/29 por los misioneros de Steyl en Neuenkirchen/St. Arnold cerca de Rheine. Con más de 1100 estudiantes, se cuenta entre los más grandes gimnasios en Renania del Norte-Westfalia y tiene una importancia regional.
En 1920, los misioneros de Steyl buscaban en las cercanías de Rheine un lugar adecuado para establecer una escuela misionera. El posadero August Schmitz de Neuenkirchen había transferido toda su propiedad a los Steyler, lo que permitió a los misioneros adquirir aquí bienes inmuebles. Así, en 1924, se pudo adquirir de manera económica suelo baldío en el campo de grava de Münsterland entre Neuenkirchen y Emsdetten, cerca de la estación de tren de Neuenkirchen, mediante un intercambio.
