La Mergelkuhle en Belm es hoy un monumento natural en el borde noreste de Alt-Belm, Belm, distrito de Osnabrück, situado en la zona del antiguo castillo de Astrup. Se encuentra en la Schlossstraße en una zona forestal de aproximadamente 2 ha y ocupa entre el 80 y el 90 % de su superficie.
La zona pertenece a la región de colinas de Osnabrück. Las capas de roca que emergen en esta cantera se asignan geológicamente al Terciario. Allí se pueden encontrar rocas de marga con restos de diversas rocas calcáreas y arenosas, que se asignan al Oligoceno. La marga es una materia prima importante para la producción de cemento y anteriormente también se utilizaba para mejorar los suelos de áreas húmedas desecadas.
