La iglesia barroca de San Francisco fue hasta 1811 la iglesia del antiguo convento de los Mínimos adyacente en Zwillbrock, cerca de Vreden. Especialmente para los católicos de Twente y del Achterhoek, justo al otro lado de la frontera de la República de los Países Bajos, esta iglesia tuvo una gran importancia. La historia de la iglesia se remonta a la época de la Reforma.
