El castillo de Blankenheim es un complejo de castillos situado sobre el municipio de Blankenheim en la Eifel. Fue construido como un castillo en altura alrededor del año 1115 por Gerhard I y fue la sede ancestral de la familia von Blankenheim.
Los señores de Blankenheim fueron elevados al rango de condes en 1380. Tras la muerte del último conde gobernante de Blankenheim de la casa de Loon-Heinsberg, Wilhelm II, Dietrich III, conde de Manderscheid, heredó en 1468 el condado de Blankenheim y la señoría de Schleiden, así como Gerhardstein, a través de su esposa y se llamó a partir de 1469 conde de Manderscheid y Blankenheim. Dividió su propiedad en 1488 entre sus tres hijos, siendo el segundo hijo, el conde Johann, quien heredó el condado de Blankenheim, Jünkerath, el castillo de Gerolstein y partes de la señoría de Mechernich, estableciendo así la línea Manderscheid-Blankenheim-Gerolstein.
