Mattierzoll es una localidad del municipio de Winnigstedt, situado en el distrito de Wolfenbüttel. Mattierzoll se encuentra en la B 79, a medio camino entre Halberstadt y Wolfenbüttel, justo en la frontera estatal de Niedersachsen/Sachsen-Anhalt. El nombre del lugar proviene de Mattier, una unidad de pago para cruzar el dique de Hesse hacia Hesse en Fallstein.
Mattierzoll ha estado durante siglos en la zona fronteriza de varios territorios, especialmente entre el Ducado de Braunschweig y la Diócesis de Halberstadt, o más tarde Brandeburgo-Prusia. En 1941 se llevó a cabo una importante limpieza de fronteras con el fin de reorganizar distritos administrativos contiguos y cohesivos, durante la cual la localidad vecina de Hessen fue transferida de Braunschweig a Prusia.
