El balneario de Nordseebad Dangast se encuentra en el suroeste de la bahía de Jade, en el distrito de Friesland, y es parte de la ciudad de Varel. Dangast tiene 545 habitantes.
Los orígenes de Dangast se remontan al siglo XI. Durante la segunda inundación de Marcellus en 1362, se destruyó el primer asentamiento de Dangast, que se encontraba a unos cientos de metros al noroeste del lugar actual, junto con la sede del clan de jefes frisones de los Wimekinge, del cual provenía Edo Wiemken el Viejo. Después de la inundación de Marcellus, Dangast fue re-fundado en un lugar protegido de las inundaciones, en la ladera sur de una elevación glacial. Gracias a esta ubicación, Dangast es hoy uno de los pocos lugares en la costa norte de Alemania donde no se requiere la construcción de un dique de protección. La “vista al mar sin dique” que se permite aquí es una de las principales atracciones del lugar.
