En 1903 se fundó la vidriera Peill y Sohn en Düren. Leopold Peill, el propietario de entonces, fue un benefactor para la ciudad de Düren. Por ejemplo, donó 25,000 marcos para el equipo de rayos X del hospital municipal construido en 1909. En 1947, las vidrieras de la fábrica de los hermanos Putzler, fundada en 1869 en Penzig en la Alta Lusacia, se unieron a Peill y Sohn en Düren para formar Peill & Putzler Glashüttenwerke GmbH. La empresa Putzler contaba, entre otras cosas, con una larga experiencia como proveedor de vidrio para faroles de petróleo. La fabricación se concentró, debido a la Segunda Guerra Mundial, en un terreno de 6,9 ha junto a la antigua fábrica de azúcar de Düren, al norte de la ciudad.
