El río Lager Hase tiene una longitud de 12,2 km y se forma en la frontera entre la ciudad de Dinklage y el municipio de Essen a partir de la confluencia del Dinklager Mühlenbach con la Aue, y se une 2 km al oeste del centro de Essen con el canal de Essen para formar el Große Hase, convirtiendo así el cuerpo de agua en parte del delta interior de Hase. Ocasionalmente, también se considera el tramo de 3,2 km del Dinklager Mühlenbach entre la desembocadura del Hopener Mühlenbach y la Aue del Lager Hase, que según esta definición tiene una longitud de 15,4 km.
