Il fiume Lager Hase è lungo 12,2 km e ha origine dalla confluenza del Dinklager Mühlenbach con l'Aue, al confine tra la città di Dinklage e il comune di Essen, e si unisce al canale di Essen 2 km a ovest del centro abitato di Essen formando il Große Hase, trasformando così il corso d'acqua in parte del delta interno del Hase. A volte si considera anche il tratto di 3,2 km del Dinklager Mühlenbach tra l'immissione del Hopener Mühlenbach e l'Aue del Lager Hase, che secondo questa definizione è lungo 15,4 km.
