El lugar fue mencionado por primera vez en un documento en 1238 como Snait. Schnait se convirtió en la sede del linaje noble Gaisberg en el siglo XVI. En 1555, la aldea pasó a ser propiedad de los Schencken von Limpurg. El 10 de julio de 1596, Schnait fue tomado por Wurtemberg. Los Schencken von Limpurg recuperaron Schnait el 18 de noviembre de 1602. En 1607, Schnait fue transferido definitivamente a Wurtemberg a través de un intercambio. La comunidad pertenecía a la oficina superior de Schorndorf. Tras la disolución de la oficina superior de Schorndorf, Schnait fue asignado al distrito de Waiblingen en 1938. En 1971, se inauguró la iglesia católica Heilig Kreuz en Schnait, que tradicionalmente estaba dominada por el protestantismo. El 1 de enero de 1975, Schnait, junto con otras comunidades, se convirtió en parte de la nueva comunidad de Weinstadt.
