Il luogo fu menzionato per la prima volta nel 1238 come Snait. Schnait divenne nel 16° secolo la sede della nobiltà della famiglia Gaisberg. Nel 1555 il villaggio passò in possesso dei conti di Limpurg. Il 10 luglio 1596 Schnait fu acquisito dal Württemberg. I conti di Limpurg riacquistarono Schnait il 18 novembre 1602. Nel 1607 Schnait passò definitivamente al Württemberg tramite uno scambio. Il comune apparteneva all'ufficio superiore di Schorndorf. Dopo la dissoluzione dell'ufficio superiore di Schorndorf, Schnait fu assegnato nel 1938 al distretto di Waiblingen. Nel 1971, nel tradizionale Schnait a maggioranza protestante, fu inaugurata la chiesa cattolica del Santo Crocifisso. Il 1° gennaio 1975 Schnait divenne insieme ad altri comuni parte del nuovo comune di Weinstadt.
