El puente ferroviario histórico de Wesel fue construido entre 1872 y 1874 por la Compañía de Ferrocarriles de Colonia y Mindeno (CME) como parte del ferrocarril de Hamburgo a Venlo y durante su existencia fue el puente sobre el Rin más al norte en Alemania. A partir de 1917 existió cerca del puente ferroviario un puente adicional para vehículos, hasta que ambos puentes fueron destruidos durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Solo el puente para vehículos fue reconstruido posteriormente.
