Il ponte ferroviario storico di Wesel è stato costruito tra il 1872 e il 1874 dalla società ferroviaria Cöln-Mindener (CME) come parte della linea ferroviaria Hamburg-Venlo e, per tutta la sua esistenza, è stato il ponte sul Reno più a nord in Germania. A partire dal 1917, vicino al ponte ferroviario, esisteva un ulteriore ponte stradale, fino a quando entrambi i ponti furono distrutti durante la seconda guerra mondiale. Solo il ponte stradale fu poi ricostruito.
