Le pont ferroviaire historique de Wesel a été construit entre 1872 et 1874 par la société de chemin de fer Cöln-Mindener (CME) dans le cadre de la ligne Hambourg-Venlo et était, durant toute son existence, le pont sur le Rhin le plus au nord de l'Allemagne. À partir de 1917, un pont routier supplémentaire existait à proximité du pont ferroviaire, jusqu'à ce que les deux ponts soient détruits pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Seul le pont routier a été reconstruit par la suite.
