El fuerte Mariensiel era, como parte del plan de fortificaciones de Wilhelmshaven, un fuerte para proteger el puerto militar prusiano en Wilhelmshaven. Se encuentra en Mariensiel, en el municipio de Sande, justo fuera de Wilhelmshaven, cerca de la Maade y del canal Ems-Jade.
Los fuertes de Maade Rüstersiel, Mariensiel y Schaar fueron anunciados el 4 de agosto de 1876 en el periódico de Wilhelmshaven. Las obras de construcción fueron completadas en 1880. A través de una nueva carretera perimetral, el fuerte Mariensiel estaba conectado con los fuertes Schaar y Rüstersiel, y estaba equipado con vías de ferrocarril de campo. Su recorrido correspondía al de las actuales calles An der Vogelwarte, Dodoweg y Kurt-Schumacher-Straße. Durante la Primera Guerra Mundial, al noroeste de la instalación se encontraba la batería de flak Roffhausen. Al sur estaba la batería de flak Sande y al este la batería de flak Munitionshof.
