El lugar fue mencionado por primera vez en un documento en 1249. El prior de San Mauritz en Münster confirmó la jurisdicción de la parroquia de Amelsbüren sobre el hospital de San Juan ubicado en Venne. En el año 1255, se mencionó en un documento del magistrado de la ciudad de Münster la capilla de San Juan en Venne. En el mismo año, las casas entre la casa y Venne fueron transferidas para el bautismo y el entierro a Venne. En el año 1290, Venne se menciona explícitamente como "parochia".
