La fortaleza tiene sus orígenes en el siglo XV y se presenta hoy como un conjunto renacentista con elementos barrocos del siglo XVII. Los constructores fueron probablemente los señores de Trock y posteriormente los barones de Droste zu Vischering. Sus descendientes todavía son propietarios de la Casa Vorhelm.
