Después de una catastrófica inundación en 1957 que devastó la ciudad de Valencia, el río Turia fue dividido en dos en los límites occidentales de la ciudad. El antiguo lecho del río es ahora un exuberante parque hundido que permite a ciclistas y peatones cruzar gran parte de la ciudad sin utilizar carreteras. El parque, llamado 'Jardín del Turia', cuenta con numerosos estanques, senderos, fuentes, flores, canchas de fútbol, cafés, obras de arte, paredes de escalada, una pista de atletismo, un jardín zen y más. Los numerosos puentes sobre el parque permiten el tráfico sobre él.
