Este tipo de capilla sacramental en realidad está diseñada como un anexo a una iglesia más grande , compartiendo una fachada con la catedral misma y también funcionando como una iglesia parroquial por derecho propio.
El nombre Iglesia del Sagrario (Iglesia del Tabernáculo) se utiliza para las iglesias católicas en varias ciudades de Andalucía y América Latina.
El Sagrari de Granada tiene un portal de piedra de Serra Elvira con tres estatuas correspondientes a San Pedro, San Ibón y San Juan Nepomuceno.
En la sala contigua al altar mayor , el escultor José Bada creó un hermoso sagrario de mármoles de colores , que actualmente alberga una reproducción de la Inmaculada Concepción del maestro Alonso Cano.
