El Palais-Royal es un conjunto monumental parisino —un palacio, unos jardines, unas galerías y un teatro— situado al norte del palacio del Louvre, en el I Distrito de París, que fue y es un destacado lugar de la historia de Francia y de la vida parisina.
Construido por el cardenal Richelieu para ser su residencia parisina a partir de 1624, el conocido como Palais-Cardinal fue donado al rey Luis XIII en 1636. Tras la muerte del monarca, sirvió como residencia a la reina regente Ana de Austria y al rey Luis XIV niño durante los disturbios de la Fronda, momento en que se pasó a ser nombrado Palais-Royal, nombre que retuvo a pesar de que tras 1652 casi nunca más volvió a alojar a un soberano francés.
