La unidad urbana de Saint-Quentin está situada en el noroeste del departamento de Aisne, en la región histórica de Vermandois, donde Saint-Quentin es el centro principal, siendo incluso apodada la capital de Alta Picardía. Actualmente se encuentra en la región de Altos de Francia, al sur de la antigua región administrativa de Nord-Pas-de-Calais y al oeste de Thiérache, otra región histórica de la antigua región administrativa de Picardía.
