Durante la Gran Guerra, los soldados fueron enterrados en los más pequeños recovecos cercanos a las zonas de combate.
Se creó un primer cementerio al final de la Route de Fontenoy, al final de la cañada de Chapeaumont.
Después, en noviembre de 1921, por sugerencia de las autoridades militares, los cuerpos fueron trasladados al cementerio de Vic-sur-Aisne.
Situada en las afueras de la ciudad, esta necrópolis ocupa una superficie de 9.385 m² y contiene 3.046 cuerpos, 932 de ellos en osarios, así como cuatro tumbas de la Segunda Guerra Mundial.
También puede presentar sus respetos ante una tumba musulmana, donde está enterrado Ma Yi Pao, que se alistó en la Legión Extranjera y fue el único soldado chino que murió por Francia.
