El emplazamiento de Saint-Nicaise es uno de los más prestigiosos de la producción de Champagne y reúne a productores de vino de gran renombre internacional. Se encuentra al sureste del centro histórico de Reims, en un antiguo territorio a caballo entre la ciudad medieval y la colina que ocupan las grandes fincas de Champagne.
Forma parte de la propiedad en serie "Coteaux, Maisons et Caves de Champagne", inscrita en la Lista del Patrimonio Mundial en 2015, junto con las laderas históricas de Cumières y Mareuil-sur-Aÿ y la Avenida de Champagne en Epernay.
Esta colina de tiza está formada por antiguas canteras y pozos que, en la época medieval, se utilizaban para extraer tiza. Con el tiempo, estos famosos "pozos de tiza" se convirtieron en un lugar de almacenamiento y maduración de vinos. Bajo la colina de Saint-Nicaise, 57 kilómetros de galerías recorren y conservan la producción de seis grandes casas.
