La iglesia parroquial de San Jorge es, junto con la iglesia de San Nicolás, el edificio sacro más importante de la ciudad de Haguenau. La iglesia es Monumento histórico desde 1848.
La construcción de la iglesia románica comenzó bajo el duque estaufen Federico II de Suabia y reemplazó una capilla románica anterior. En 1143, el obispo de Estrasburgo, Burchard I, concedió el permiso para la construcción de la iglesia, que se completó en 1189. Su forma recuerda más a la arquitectura románica suabia, marcada por Hirsau, que a la románica del Alto Rin y Alsacia, donde prevalece la basílica de pilares con bóveda. Como pariente más cercano se puede considerar la iglesia del monasterio de Schwarzach en la orilla opuesta del Rin. En el exterior, la nave principal está dividida por lesenas y frisos de arcos redondos.
