La abadía benedictina de Sainte-Scholastique en Juvigny-sur-Loison se encuentra en un meandro del río Loison, en el borde del bosque de Woëvre y en la frontera entre Francia y el Sacro Imperio Romano, entre los lugares de Montmédy, Stenay y Damvillers.
Según la tradición, la abadía fue fundada en 874 por Richildis, la segunda esposa de Carlos el Calvo. El 6 de junio de ese año se trajeron aquí las reliquias de la santa Escolástica de Nursia, que fue venerada como hermana de Benedicto de Nursia. Sin embargo, fueron olvidadas y solo a finales del siglo XI fueron "redescubiertas" por la abadesa "a través de una revelación divina".
