De Benedictenabdij Sainte-Scholastique in Juvigny-sur-Loison staat in een bocht van de rivier Loison aan de rand van het Woëvre-bos en de grens tussen Frankrijk en het Heilige Roomse Rijk, tussen de plaatsen Montmédy, Stenay en Damvillers.
Volgens de traditie werd de abdij in 874 gesticht door Richildis, de tweede vrouw van Karel de Kale. Op 6 juni van dat jaar werden hier de relikwieën van de heilige Scholastica van Nursia gebracht, die als zus van Benedictus van Nursia werd vereerd. Ze werden echter daarna vergeten en pas eind 11e eeuw "door goddelijke openbaring" door de abdis "herontdekt".
