Auténtica pequeña fortaleza, la Puerta de los Alemanes es muy emblemática de la ciudad y debe su nombre a los Caballeros Teutónicos, o Hermanos Hospitalarios de Notre Dame des Allemands, que fundaron un hospital en las inmediaciones en el siglo XIII. Es el edificio más imponente que queda de las murallas medievales, a la vez puerta doble y puente sobre la Seille. Desde la Porte des Allemands, puede realizar la visita de las murallas, que recorre los restos de las fortificaciones de la ciudad de Metz.
