El 30 de mayo de 1919, aquí en el Hotel Majestic en París, se gestó la idea del Instituto Real de Asuntos Internacionales; más tarde comenzó a tomar forma el Chatham House. Un grupo de científicos, que como miembros de la delegación estadounidense y británica asistió a la Conferencia de Paz de París, fue reunido por Lionel Curtis para discutir la necesidad de un instituto que organizara discusiones críticas y fomentara el estudio de cuestiones internacionales. El Chatham House se convirtió en un instituto de políticas independiente con sede en Londres. Su misión es proporcionar un análisis autorizado de los acontecimientos mundiales y ofrecer soluciones a los desafíos globales.
