Mazamet se desarrolla en el siglo XIX gracias al espíritu de iniciativa de sus industriales en torno al textil, creando una actividad innovadora: el deslanado, muy pronto asociado con el curtido y el trabajo del cuero. Dos senderos urbanos recorren hoy esta epopeya y revelan elegantes hoteles particulares.
En la Casa de las memorias, encuentro con la historia del catarismo. Videos, sonidos y reconstrucciones te explican la vida cotidiana de las poblaciones perseguidas por la Cruzada y la Inquisición.
Justo al lado, los oscuros y misteriosos bosques de la Montaña Negra son un terreno de juego para el senderismo y las actividades al aire libre. El puente colgante en el vacío permite conectar Mazamet con Hautpoul, un pequeño pueblo medieval.
