Situado en la histórica ciudad de Nérac, el castillo fue construido en el siglo XV por Alain d'Albret le Grand, tatarabuelo de Enrique IV. Residencia principal del futuro Enrique IV y de su esposa, la reina Margarita de Valois, conocida como reina Margot, de 1577 a 1582, atestigua el apogeo de la familia d'Albret y de la corte de Nérac durante el Renacimiento. La mayor parte del castillo fue desmantelada durante la Revolución Francesa, y todo lo que queda hoy en día es la notable ala norte de su patio interior.
El castillo de Nérac está abierto al público de diversas y originales formas. Eventos culturales durante toda la temporada de verano.
