A tan solo 8 kilómetros de la cueva de Lascaux, en un valle rodeado de bosques, el pueblo de Saint-Amand-de-Coly – uno de los más bellos pueblos de Francia – alberga una espectacular abadía, fundada hace más de 1000 años por San Amand.
Esta abadía, hecha de piedras Sarladaises y de losas típicas del Périgord Negro, es considerada como la iglesia fortificada más hermosa de la región y invita a la contemplación. Es difícil no caer bajo el encanto del campanario-portal de la abadía de Saint-Amand-de-Coly, que se eleva a 30 metros, y que se distingue por su inmensa bóveda en arco roto que enmarca la puerta de entrada de la iglesia.
Toda la historia de esta imponente construcción se narra en el sendero de interpretación, pero también puede elegir un audioguía en la oficina de turismo para descubrir los secretos de este edificio defensivo.
