Al norte de Burdeos, cerca de la Dordoña y de la desembocadura de la Gironda, descubre Pair-non-Pair, una de las cuevas con arte rupestre más antiguas del mundo. Las excavaciones arqueológicas, realizadas por François Daleau a finales del siglo XIX, han proporcionado varias decenas de miles de herramientas y restos de animales, fuentes de información sobre la evolución de la especie humana, de la industria lítica y ósea, así como del clima y del medio ambiente.
La cueva presenta grabados parietales que datan del inicio del Paleolítico superior, más allá de 30,000 años antes de nuestra era. Utilizando el relieve natural de las paredes, representan figuras de caballos, mamuts, bóvidos, ibex y ciervos, incluyendo un megaceronte, un animal muy raramente representado.
