La estación se construyó en 1861, cuando se abrió al tráfico la "línea del carbón" entre Metz y Saarbrücken el 15 de noviembre de 1852. El edificio actual data de 1962 y fue remodelado en 2007 para la llegada del tren de alta velocidad europeo TGV EST. La nueva plaza de la estación se convirtió en la plaza Robert Schuman.
