La zona marina protegida, calificada por Europa como sitio marino Natura 2000, abarca un territorio marino de 6.152 hectáreas, desde Port Ambonne hasta Grau d'Agde, hasta 3 millas mar adentro, es decir, 5,5 km. Alrededor de la isla de Brescou, corazón de la zona marina, este perímetro alberga importantes recursos naturales como las praderas de posidonia y los arrecifes de coralígeno, los pequeños fondos rocosos mediterráneos de la Grande Conque, Rochelongue y los Battuts y los entornos arenosos de las playas. Los delfines también frecuentan esta zona de vez en cuando
