Como la antigua iglesia parroquial se quedó pequeña, el ayuntamiento decidió en 1849 construir un nuevo edificio en el centro del pueblo. La primera piedra no se colocó hasta 1864, en el emplazamiento de una hermosa granja que se había trasladado un poco más lejos.
La iglesia neogótica fue construida entre 1864 y 1866 por el arquitecto Ringeisen. Consta de un campanario en la fachada, una nave abovedada flanqueada por naves y un coro poligonal. Su gran tamaño le ha valido el apodo de "Catedral del Ried". Los frescos y las pinturas fueron restaurados en 2009.
Una zona acristalada permite a los visitantes ver el interior de la iglesia y sus frescos. (De Semana Santa a mediados de septiembre, todos los días)
