The old parish church having become too small, the municipality decided, in 1849, to erect a new building in the centre of the village. The first stone was not laid until 1864, on the site of a beautiful farmhouse, which was built a little further up the road.
This neo-gothic church was designed by the architect Ringeisen, who built it between 1864 and 1866. It consists of a front bell tower, a vaulted nave flanked by side aisles and a polygonal choir. Its large dimensions earned it the nickname "Cathedral of the Ried". The frescoes and paintings were restored in 2009.
