Da die alte Pfarrkirche zu klein geworden war, beschloss die Gemeinde 1849, ein neues Gebäude in der Mitte des Dorfes zu errichten. Der Grundstein wurde erst 1864 an der Stelle eines schönen Bauernhauses gelegt, das ein Stück weiter oben errichtet worden war.
Die neugotische Kirche wurde von dem Architekten Ringeisen zwischen 1864 und 1866 erbaut. Sie besteht aus einem Glockenturm, einem gewölbten Kirchenschiff, das von Seitenschiffen flankiert wird, und einem polygonalen Chor. Aufgrund ihrer großen Ausmaße wird sie auch als "Kathedrale des Rieds" bezeichnet. Die Fresken und Gemälde wurden 2009 restauriert.
