Poiché la vecchia chiesa parrocchiale era diventata troppo piccola, nel 1849 il comune decise di costruire un nuovo edificio nel centro del paese. La prima pietra fu posata solo nel 1864, al posto di una bella casa colonica che era stata spostata un po' più in là.
La chiesa neogotica fu costruita tra il 1864 e il 1866 dall'architetto Ringeisen. Si compone di un campanile sul fronte, di una navata a volta fiancheggiata da navate laterali e di un coro poligonale. Le sue grandi dimensioni le hanno fatto guadagnare il soprannome di "Cattedrale del Ried". Gli affreschi e i dipinti sono stati restaurati nel 2009.
Un'area vetrata permette ai visitatori di vedere l'interno della chiesa e i suoi affreschi. (da Pasqua a metà settembre, tutti i giorni)
