El mayor de 11 hijos, hija de Georges EPPINGER, agricultor, y de Barbe VOGT, Elisabeth nació en esta casa el 9 de septiembre de 1814. Elisabeth EPPINGER sólo asistió a la escuela unos pocos años, pero mostró una profunda piedad personal desde muy temprano. Su salud era precaria, a menudo enferma y postrada en la cama, pero sus sufrimientos la ayudaron a prepararse para cumplir su misión. Sólo tenía un sueño, ser monja, ayudar a los enfermos, a los pobres, acoger a los huérfanos y ofrecerles una educación.
