Estas profundas gargantas, situadas en la vertiente noroeste del Monte Lozère, fueron excavadas por el arroyo Bramont, cuyas aguas son en parte subterráneas. Las laderas están ocupadas por vegetación boscosa a base de pino silvestre y roble.
A lo largo de las orillas del arroyo, donde vive la nutria europea, hay una vegetación ribereña de fresnos, álamos, sauces y alisos, característica del borde del agua.
Los acantilados permiten la nidificación del búho real, cuya población en Lozère se estima entre 20 y 30 parejas.
Los bosques son aptos para el águila culebrera, de la que Lozère cuenta con entre 120 y 190 parejas.
