Queste profonde gole, sul versante nord-occidentale del Mont-Lozère, sono state scavate dal torrente Bramont, le cui acque sono in parte sotterranee. I pendii sono occupati da una vegetazione boschiva a base di pino silvestre e quercia.
Lungo le sponde del torrente, dove vive la lontra europea, c'è una vegetazione ripariale di frassini, pioppi, salici e ontani, caratteristica del bordo dell'acqua.
Le scogliere permettono la nidificazione del gufo comune, la cui popolazione in Lozère è stimata tra le 20 e le 30 coppie.
I boschi sono adatti all'aquila di mare, di cui Lozère conta tra le 120 e le 190 coppie.
