Construido en la primera mitad del siglo XIII, el castillo-fortaleza de Coudray-Salbart es una notable fortaleza militar.
Una arquitectura rica: 14 salas en un estado excepcional de conservación, de las cuales 12 salas abovedadas de estilos arquitectónicos variados (8 abiertas al público).
Un sistema de defensa con un conducto periférico (pasillo dentro de las cortes) único en Europa.
Una historia misteriosa: El primer documento que describe este edificio data de 1460, mientras que el inicio de la construcción se remonta a 1202/1204. Clasificado Monumento histórico, es objeto de todas las atenciones de los Amigos del Coudray-Salbart desde 1961 y de su propietario, la Comunidad de Agrupación del Niortés desde 2000. Se han llevado a cabo importantes restauraciones en este centro de la arquitectura militar muy poco reformado.
