Il castello-fortezza di Coudray-Salbart è una fortezza militare del XIII secolo.
Ricca architettura: sale eccezionalmente ben conservate in diversi stili architettonici.
Un sistema di difesa con un pozzo periferico (corridoio all'interno delle cortine murarie) di cui esistono solo pochi esempi in Europa.
La sua storia misteriosa risale al 1202/1204. Classificato come monumento storico, dal 1961 è al centro dell'attenzione degli Amici di Château Salbart. La Communauté d'Agglomération du Niortais, proprietaria del castello dal 2000, ha realizzato importanti lavori di restauro di questo gioiello dell'architettura militare, che ha subito pochissime modifiche, dopo essere stato salvato dal volontariato (1978-2002).
