La catedral de Canterbury es la catedral más famosa de Inglaterra y la sede del arzobispo de Canterbury, el primado de la Iglesia Anglicana.
La historia de la catedral se remonta al año 597. En ese año, San Agustín, enviado por el Papa Gregorio I, llevó la fe cristiana a la Inglaterra anglosajona. San Agustín fundó una iglesia y se convirtió en el primer arzobispo. En 1170, el arzobispo Tomás Becket fue asesinado en la catedral, y desde entonces, Canterbury se desarrolló como un importante lugar de peregrinación. En los Cuentos de Canterbury de Geoffrey Chaucer, hay peregrinos en camino desde Londres a esta catedral.
El campanario de la catedral tiene 72 m de altura. En la cripta todavía se pueden ver algunas tumbas. En el siglo XVI, aquí se encontraba la tumba del arzobispo Tomás Becket, pero fue destruida poco después. Frente a la entrada de la cripta hay un monumento a Tomás Becket.
En la catedral hay diversas vidrieras que muestran, entre otras figuras sagradas, a Pedro y Juan, así como a Adán y Eva. En la planta de los Sillas de la Abadía se encuentra la tumba del Príncipe Negro.
La catedral de Canterbury, la abadía de San Agustín y la iglesia de San Martín fueron incluidas en la lista del patrimonio mundial de la UNESCO en 1988.
