Craco es un desordenado pueblo fantasma de piedra que parece que podría deslizarse por un acantilado. Construido en el siglo VIII, las viviendas apiladas de manera caótica fueron creadas para ser fácilmente defendibles de una horda de bárbaros. Si bien esta estrategia fue efectiva contra los bárbaros invasores, lo fue menos contra los ataques de Madre Naturaleza, y en 1991, la histórica ciudad finalmente sufrió un deslizamiento de tierra que obligó a los habitantes restantes a abandonar el lugar. Ahora es un precario pueblo fantasma que aún recibe turistas y festivales religiosos utilizando las calles en ruinas.
