La Biblioteca Medicea Laurenziana posee el singular Planisferio Salviati. Es un mapa del mundo que muestra la visión española de la Tierra en 1525. Incluye las costas orientales de América del Norte y del Sur y el Estrecho de Magallanes. En lugar de incluir material imaginario en áreas inexploradas, como era habitual, se eligió dejar esas áreas deliberadamente vacías en este mapa, lo que invita a futuras exploraciones. Era un mapa claro con la idea de "No sabemos". Como dice el autor Yuval Noah Harari en su libro Sapiens: "Invita al espectador a irse y averiguarlo".
