Piazza XX Settembre está a la altura del Ponte di Mezzo y da a Piazza Garibaldi al otro lado del río.
A la izquierda de Piazza XX Settembre (de espaldas al Logge di Banchi) se encuentra el Palacio Gambacorti (sede del municipio): un hermoso edificio gótico pisano con una doble fila de ventanas de doble ojiva e inscripciones y escudos de armas que adornan la fachada.
El edificio es ahora la sede del municipio, razón por la cual los pisanos llaman a la plaza Piazza del Comune.
El atrio de la plaza da acceso al patio, con columnas con capiteles del siglo XV y paredes decoradas con escudos de armas de las juntas de corregidores.
A la izquierda está la torre con el reloj del Palacio Pretorio donde ahora se encuentra la biblioteca municipal.
