El templo fue construido en el siglo XIV , contiguo al enorme monasterio carmelita de aquella época, construido hacia el siglo XII. Tras las primeras intervenciones en 1514, la iglesia fue completamente renovada en 1633. El monasterio fue renovado varias veces hasta que fue demolido en 1905 para construir una escuela.
La iglesia es un bello ejemplo de arte barroco con dos accesos: el primero está en la fachada principal, reconstruida en el siglo XIX; el segundo es un elegante portal barroco de piedra de hermoso diseño.
Junto a la fachada secundaria se encuentra un campanario de piedra del siglo XVIII .
