De tempel werd gebouwd in de veertiende eeuw, grenzend aan het enorme karmelietenklooster uit die tijd, gebouwd rond de twaalfde eeuw. Na de eerste ingrepen in 1514 werd de kerk in 1633 volledig gerenoveerd. Het klooster werd meerdere keren verbouwd tot het in 1905 werd afgebroken om er een school te bouwen.
De kerk is een prachtig voorbeeld van barokke kunst met twee ingangen: de eerste bevindt zich in de hoofdgevel, herbouwd in de 19e eeuw; de tweede is een elegant barok stenen portaal met een prachtig ontwerp.
Naast de secundaire gevel staat een 18e-eeuwse stenen klokkentoren.
